Rhode Island’s bye week could help Rams

“In terms of environment, this is going to be the most hostile environment these kids have played in since they’ve been here,” Trainer said. “When you’re playing a I-A game, if you can avoid the knockout punch early, then the pressure goes to them. If you can keep the game close into the second half and into the fourth quarter, you feel pretty good about that.”

Orange Watch Friday: Opening against a FCS opponent

It has always baffled me why some teams open up the college football season with much tougher opponents than others. Look at Maryland and Miami meeting Monday night, an ACC conference game for crying out loud, while a team like Rutgers goes the complete opposite direction hosting and romping over FCS foe North Carolina Central, and a program like SU splits the difference by opening with and hosting a BCS opponent in Wake Forest squeaking by in OT.

Frisbee. Dodge ball. Tag. We’ve all played these games on family picnics, in camp, in the backyard or in physical education class. Members of the Syracuse University football team participated in these activities, too, but it was all in the name of competition: developing and sustaining a competitive edge that carries over to the football field as well as other walks of life.
