Editor’s letter – Fearless predictions

Turns out, I was this close to correctly predicting Syracuse’s season opener against Wake Forest. The Orange won a thriller in overtime, 36-29, which was a combined two points off my original prediction. While I’m not exactly driving out to my nearest Lotto seller, it’s worth looking at the staff predictions again for this coming season.

Frisbee. Dodge ball. Tag. We’ve all played these games on family picnics, in camp, in the backyard or in physical education class. Members of the Syracuse University football team participated in these activities, too, but it was all in the name of competition: developing and sustaining a competitive edge that carries over to the football field as well as other walks of life.

Syracuse-Wake Forest Diary

10 minutes to kickoff: the journalist sitting next to me asks me if the cookies are soft or hard. “Soft,” I tell him. He reports that they tend to be soft during basketball games but hard during football games. We’re bucking trends tonight! Is that a good sign or a bad one? I have no idea.

2011 Football preview – Week 11, Cincinnati

Butch Jones inherited a Bearcats team last year that had won two straight Big East Conference Championships and had won a combined 23 games during that two year stretch. But with many of the playmakers that made that run possible gone, Jones’ team struggled to a 4-8 season and Cincinnati missed a bowl game for the first time since 2007.
