Syracuse uses big second half run to rout Virginia Tech
Tuesday night, #2 Syracuse relied on their defense for a long span in the second half, enabling them to pull away for a 72-52 road win against Virginia Tech. The offense for the Orange slowly kicked in during that time and they gradually unspooled 16 consecutive points that turned a tight contest into one clearly under their control.
Syracuse survives first ACC conference game
It was rarely pretty, but #2 Syracuse remained unbeaten on the season by claiming a 49-44 home win over Miami (Fl.) in their ACC debut on Saturday afternoon. The Orange (14-0, 1-0 ACC) led for most of the first half, but stagnated on offense early in the second half and needed a late 8-0 run to regain the lead and hold off the Hurricanes (8-6, 0-2).
Syracuse finishes 2013 with win over Eastern Michigan
With DaJuan Coleman shelved with a minor knee injury, Jerami Grant was promoted to the staring lineup for the first time at Syracuse. The sophomore forward responded well, scoring nine of the first 11 points of the day and 11 in the first 6:30 of the game for the Orange (13-0), who cruised past Eastern Michigan at the Carrier Dome, 70-48.
Syracuse Orange survive slow start to beat Villanova Wildcats
For the first nine minutes of their steepest test of the young season, #2 Syracuse looked like they were going to fail spectacularly. The Orange, rather, passed with flying colors by rocketing back from an early 18-point deficit and pulling away late for a 78-62 win over #8 Villanova at the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse Orange hold off St. John’s Red Storm
Thanks to taking a 12-point lead in the first half, then finishing the game on a 10-3 run, #2 Syracuse survived a strong second half performance by St. John’s and pulled out a 68-63 win Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden in New York. The win pushed the Orange to a 10-0 start on the season and also gave head coach Jim Boeheim his 75th career win in the Garden.
