Podcast: A scout’s take on Syracuse commit Elijah Moore

Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim speaks at 2021 ACC Tipoff.

Both the Syracuse football and basketball teams had recruiting wins in the past week.

On the basketball side, the Orange received its first commitment in the 2024 class, when shooting guard Elijah Moore committed to the SU. He picked Syracuse over finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Miami and Oklahoma State. What exactly is Syracuse getting from Moore? We chatted with Pro Insight basketball analyst Tyler Glazier to get a scouting report on Moore on this week’s The Juice on the Cuse Podcast.

Moore is widely known as a sharpshooter and has the potential to be an elite scorer at the college level. But there are other questions that Glazier answers, such as if Moore will be ready to contribute right away, how he fits into the Syracuse zone, and Moore’s overall upside. Glazier offers insight into why the Cardinal Hayes (NY) athlete is the No. 73 prospect in his class and a four-star recruit, according to 247 Sports.

On the gridiron, Syracuse football picked up a 2024 commitment as well. Conwell-Egan High (PA) athlete Sam Cooper pledged to the Orange during his Junior Day visit, becoming SU’s second commitment in the 2024 class. We spoke with Cooper on why he chose the Orange and his experience on his visit. The last question I had for Cooper is what he had to say to Syracuse fans. “I can’t wait to be there and show the same love back,” Cooper said. “And to be able to show the players and the fans that they didn’t make a mistake.”
