Class of 2023 defensive lineman Zyir Daniel was on hand for Syracuse’s Elite Camp earlier in June, and came away with plenty of positive feedback and advice from the Orange coaching staff.
“Camp was great,” Daniel said in an interview with The Juice Online. “Coach (Chris Ashuff)’s energy and style made the camp memorable. He also gave me some tips that I will take to my school that will make me better.”
The Calvert (MD) Hall prospect has always had an interest in Syracuse, and even wrote a report on Orange legend Jim Brown in first grade. Syracuse has gotten familiar with Daniel’s high school, as its the same school that star running back Sean Tucker came from.

It’s early, but Daniel has drawn interest from other schools like Penn State, which is impressive considering Daniel only picked up football within the last few years.
“I’ve made it to the point where I was able to have a great camp at a Power 5 school. I also made the final two plays (sacks) to help win my team the championship. Those examples show I can perform well under pressure.”
Daniel is looking to get back on the Syracuse campus later this summer, and if not, will try to attend a game this fall as he looks to earn an offer.
“I am a learner, teachable, and coachable, which allowed me to be in that place to succeed,” Daniel said.
