The Dag Bag – What does Wake Forest win mean for SU?

Give credit to the players. They’re the ones that pulled off the comeback. But, everything about this team reflects back on Doug Marrone. You felt he had things going in the right direction when he got the team to 4-8 after his first year. You felt the program was making strides after an 8-5 season last year, complete with a bowl victory over Kansas State. After one game in 2011, Marrone has instilled a “never say die” attitude in this team and it manifested itself Thursday night. That bodes well going forward this season and beyond.

Editor’s letter – Fearless predictions

Turns out, I was this close to correctly predicting Syracuse’s season opener against Wake Forest. The Orange won a thriller in overtime, 36-29, which was a combined two points off my original prediction. While I’m not exactly driving out to my nearest Lotto seller, it’s worth looking at the staff predictions again for this coming season.

Orange Watch Friday: Opening against a FCS opponent

It has always baffled me why some teams open up the college football season with much tougher opponents than others. Look at Maryland and Miami meeting Monday night, an ACC conference game for crying out loud, while a team like Rutgers goes the complete opposite direction hosting and romping over FCS foe North Carolina Central, and a program like SU splits the difference by opening with and hosting a BCS opponent in Wake Forest squeaking by in OT.

Relentless Competitors

Frisbee. Dodge ball. Tag. We’ve all played these games on family picnics, in camp, in the backyard or in physical education class. Members of the Syracuse University football team participated in these activities, too, but it was all in the name of competition: developing and sustaining a competitive edge that carries over to the football field as well as other walks of life.

Syracuse-Wake Forest Diary

10 minutes to kickoff: the journalist sitting next to me asks me if the cookies are soft or hard. “Soft,” I tell him. He reports that they tend to be soft during basketball games but hard during football games. We’re bucking trends tonight! Is that a good sign or a bad one? I have no idea.
