Although the Orange made a last minute charge against Pitt in front of the home crowd at the Carrier Dome, missed shots, turnovers and injuries to Trevor Cooney and Tyler Roberson stopped the Orange from building on the impressive victory against Louisville earlier in the week.
With Trevor Cooney limited by back stiffness and Tyler Roberson looking like he went at least eight rounds following an accidental elbow to the head, Syracuse once again just did not have enough to win a game.
We guess the ACC office figured if it gives Syracuse a rotating home and home series with Duke for a second straight year, the least it can do is also give SU a home and home set with Virginia Tech as well to balance the Orange’s league slate.
Despite the offensive struggles, the staff shake-up, the four-headed monster of Notre Dame, Louisville, Florida State and Clemson, and the specter of the NCAA, miraculously, a bowl berth is still possible for the Orange.
