Syracuse defense contains Wake Forest in shutout win

One drive, one turnover, one trick play. Those three things were all Syracuse needed as they pitched a 13-0 shutout on Saturday over Wake Forest at the Carrier Dome. The win not only evened out the Orange record at 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the ACC, bit it also nudged them within two games of bowl eligibility with four games left on their schedule.

The Dag Bag – What does Wake Forest win mean for SU?

Give credit to the players. They’re the ones that pulled off the comeback. But, everything about this team reflects back on Doug Marrone. You felt he had things going in the right direction when he got the team to 4-8 after his first year. You felt the program was making strides after an 8-5 season last year, complete with a bowl victory over Kansas State. After one game in 2011, Marrone has instilled a “never say die” attitude in this team and it manifested itself Thursday night. That bodes well going forward this season and beyond.

Orange Watch Friday: Opening against a FCS opponent

It has always baffled me why some teams open up the college football season with much tougher opponents than others. Look at Maryland and Miami meeting Monday night, an ACC conference game for crying out loud, while a team like Rutgers goes the complete opposite direction hosting and romping over FCS foe North Carolina Central, and a program like SU splits the difference by opening with and hosting a BCS opponent in Wake Forest squeaking by in OT.
