Syracuse-UNC Football (Oct 31 2025)
Quote from Jim Stechschulte on October 31, 2025, 10:24 pmPick your best QB prospect. He needs to be the guy the rest of the season and know it before he walks out of the building tonight. You're not getting 15 extra practices, so focus on your best guy for the future the rest of the season.

Well…… that QB isn’t Filardi.

In case anyone thinks Villari taking snaps is the answer, Filardi had 39 passing yards last night. Villari set a school record by completing all 14 of his passes in a game a couple years ago. Those passes gained 59 yards.

Quote from orangeskin on November 1, 2025, 10:55 amI don't think it's Villari, but why not have Carney pass more? He had pretty good HS passing numbers in Texas. I really think the problem is that the coaching staff was not prepared for Angeli's injury and has completely botched the management of the QB position since the moment Angeli was injured. They didn't try to tailor the offense to Rickie at all and Fran didn't even start talking about doing that until two games had been played with Rickie as QB. Last night was completely pathetic and largely due to how badly Fran has handled QB. The defense played well until they totally ran out of gas due to getting no rest since the offense wasn't consistently moving the ball, and then started putting the ball on the ground. I was at the 2002 UNC game and this was worse IMO. I see a lot of similarities with Dino at this point. Fran will not be leaving for another job. His stock has plummeted as it should.

Quote from Jim Stechschulte on November 1, 2025, 4:58 pmI don't think the defense was gassed last night. Offensive plays by quarter:
1st - NC 17, SU 13
2nd - NC 14, SU 13
3rd - NC 13, SU 13
4th - NC 18, SU 11 (NC number includes three kneel downs that ended a 14-play drive)
Last night's 62 plays is the fewest an opponent has run this season.
The defense is just not good. They gave up 425 yards and 6.86 yards per play last night, which rank 5th and 6th of their nine games this season. They're a poor tackling unit and generally lack high-end talent among the upperclassmen.
Defensive line is structured to roll bodies out there to stay fresh. Linebackers are thin, especially considering they moved Clement from TE this season (in addition to moving Chase Simmons back to DE after switching him to TE in the offseason). DBs have talent in Chestnut, Grant, Peal, and Samuel, but you shouldn't have DBs ranking 3rd through 8th on your team in tackles.
