With that statement to begin his postgame remarks to the media Sunday afternoon, Syracuse lacrosse coach John Desko summed up perfectly, and put a light spin on, his team’s thwarted comeback in the final minute of regulation play ending with a 15-14 loss to Notre Dame in the ACC championship game at PPL Park just down I-95 from Philadelphia.

Not a blue one, and certainly not a white helmet, as Maloney found out in a hailstorm of criticism in 1974 as he wanted to separate himself from the previous quarter century of SU football under Coach Ben. By Maloney’s fourth season (of seven years as head coach) the helmet was back to orange.

Like any team, Syracuse needs to be at full strength as the NCAA Tournament rounds into view, so until Grant is ready to continue to show the athleticism down low that has wowed Orange Nation the last two seasons, the major questions about an Orange offense that has had trouble shooting the ball as February turns into March and the loss of the team’s leading rebounder, will remain.
