Well, that didn’t take long. 25-0 now seems like a distant memory, perhaps even a dream. The nightmare of a five game skid (I’m including the Maryland victory because it was still ugly), heading into the last game of the regular season, has Syracuse fans everywhere wondering, how did it happen? What went wrong?
Relying on a full-court press for the first time this season, Syracuse was able to cut the deficit to 61-59 with 34 seconds left after Michael Gbinije tipped in a CJ Fair miss. But Trae Golden went 6-6 from the line down the stretch, and the Orange missed three of its final four shots to drop its four game of the season.
Like any team, Syracuse needs to be at full strength as the NCAA Tournament rounds into view, so until Grant is ready to continue to show the athleticism down low that has wowed Orange Nation the last two seasons, the major questions about an Orange offense that has had trouble shooting the ball as February turns into March and the loss of the team’s leading rebounder, will remain.
