Syracuse will need to replace Jackson’s production

While Syracuse may be returning most of its core players this season, the one exception is Rick Jackson. The forward was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 13.1 points and 10.3 rebounds, and was SU’s most consistent player throughout the year. Although the Orange has plenty of talent across the board, Jackson’s role may be a difficult one to fill.

Jackson’s career ends on a sour note

Syracuse’s lone senior, and best interior player struggled through a seven point, four rebound performance as the Orange was ousted from the NCAA tournament by Big East rival Marquette, 66-62. It was Syracuse’s second-straight early exit and left Jackson frustrated afterward.

Jackson snubbed in Big East awards

Jackson was the only one in the conference to average a double-double (13.1 ppg, 10.7 rpg) during conference play while leading the league in blocks and field goal percentage. To do that for a top-four team in the Big East has to have some added benefit.
