Syracuse and Dayton met in a first round NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional game at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis Friday afternoon with the Orange winning going away 70-51. Malachi Richardson paced SU with 20 points, while Tyler Roberson had 18 rebounds.
Highlighted during televised excerpts of Jim Boeheim’s postgame comments following the Orange’s disappointing NCAA Round of 32 defeat to Dayton at Buffalo Saturday night, was the fact that Boeheim is the first coach of a team to lose to six double digits seeds in tournament play.
No. 11 seed Dayton stunned No. 3 seed Syracuse on Saturday night to progress to the Sweet 16, 55-53. Tyler Ennis led the Orange offensively, scoring 19 points. C.J. Fair scored 14 points and Michael Gbinije added eight points off the bench to end Syracuse’s season for the year.
