Without a doubt, the biggest area of concern for Boston College going into next year is the offensive line.

The Deacons finished in the top 15 after finishing 11-3, winning the Atlantic Division and the Gator Bowl.

This unit was the engine behind Syracuse’s top-20 defense last year, and an important cog in coordinator Tony White’s 3-3-5 defense.

Going into his third year as head coach of the Florida State Seminoles, Mike Norvell has a lot to prove in Tallahassee.

Coming off a 6-5 record in 2020, the Panthers were expected to be a competitive team, but not elite. Instead, they had an 11-3 campaign.

While a drop in production is certainly to be expected, I have faith that Syracuse will squeeze every drop of potential out of this group.

The Fighting Irish were an impressive defense when it came to splash plays in 2021, but the numbers show they were average everywhere else.

Syracuse’s offensive line didn’t play well as a group last year, with a lower than average grade in both pass-blocking and run-blocking.

In 2021, Syracuse ranked 122nd in the nation in passing offense with just 153.0 yards per game under former coordinator Sterlin Gilbert.

A 10-3 overall record and a win over Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl would be considered a great year for most programs in college football.
