ON THE SYRACUSE PROGRAM/BEING A LEGACY RECRUIT

I think Syracuse is turning into a playoff contending team, with an 10-3 record and a major upset over UMiami. As a legacy recruit I am truly humble, I feel the atmosphere that my family has left behind, and how they have shaped the Cuse’ defensive linemen, And the intensity that they bring to the table.

ON THE SU OFFER

The offer is another story, it started with the second I walked into camp, I came in with high hopes and believing in the lord that I could dominate. I put 100 percent effort into every drill hoping that a coach would realize. Then it came down to the 1v1s I lined up against this giant of a lineman at tackle. The first thing that came to mind is that my first step has to be faster than his, then the rest is history.

ON THE SU COACHES

After the camp I met with coach Nick will while he was talking to NFL rookie Fadlil diggs and coach Williams first noticed my hair and gave me a compliment saying you have good hair boy, we talked for a while about our barber we share. Then it came down the offer coach told me that “I have good size and asked me is I wanted the offer.” I was stunned at first and told him that I will work for it, but then he asked again “Do you want the offer”, I told him yes and he told me that I have my first offer.

ON THE SU OFFER

I was very happy and excited to receive the offer. I felt like if I came in and ran a good time along with doing a good job in the workout it was definitely a possibility and I’m grateful to have earned that.

ON HIS WORKOUT WITH COACH SCHAEFER

The workout was great. Had a good time running the 40 and going through drills with not only Coach Schaefer, but Coach Brown too, so it was good to get a feel for how things work for the DB’s at Syracuse.

ON HIS CONVERSATION OUTSIDE THE OFFER

We spoke about the facilities, how the day went, and my development as a player.

ON WHAT HE WILL SHOW THIS FALL

This fall, I’m working to show my abilities on both sides of the ball because I’ll be getting a lot of running back action as well. Hoping to have a successful, healthy season and be able to help my team succeed.

ON THE SU OFFER

“I'm very happy. I love Syracuse a lot. And it's one of my favorite schools. I love how the coaching staff is very intense. And they really they really want you to succeed. And they're organized and very professional. So I'm very happy with it.”

ON BEING A MULTI-SPORT ATHLETE

“I grew up playing every sport I could. I played. I was a very competitive hockey player for a while, playing for national teams for playing for a lot of teams that travel around the country for tournaments. I've been playing club baseball for a very long time. I even played a little bit of rugby playing in my being a substitute for my dad's old boys team. Both my parents. I came from a legacy of athletes. Both my parents were division one athletes. My mom was a softball player at UConn. My dad was a rugby player at West Point. So sports has always been a part of our lives.”

ON HIS RECRUITMENT

“Yeah, my only offers right now are Syracuse and UMass. And Syracuse is definitely high up there. That's one of my favorite programs as of right now. Just like the professionalism and organization of the coaching staff and how much they're into it. I like Syracuse a lot. And other schools, I mean, like I said, UMass has already offered me, but I went down to UNC Duke for camps earlier this week and Boston College as well.”

Caught up with RJ earlier in the day. He said he isn't coming to SU camp this summer, but does plan on attending a game this fall, likely with his friend, George Parkinson IV (also holds an SU offer).

RJ said that he and George have made a pact to be a combo commitment package for college.

ON THE SU OFFER

It felt amazing to get my 1st offer D1 offer from Syracuse. I know it's a great program and it's a great school. And for them to offer me motivated me to work harder knowing a school believes in me.

ON THE SYRACUSE PROGRAM

I think the program is great. Great Coaching staff. I've being hearing and reading alot of great things about Coach Fran Brown.

ON THE SU CAMP

Definitely 1 of the best camps I've attended. We'll ran and love the energy and knowledge that the Coaches were giving.

ON THE COACHES

Spoke to Coach Nick and Coach Cap. Spoke about continuing to put in the work and being focused on my goals. Spoke about the grind and hard work.

Quote from Filiani that I had to leave on the cutting floor when I asked him about his relationship with the coaching staff:

I’m really thankful for all of them. Coach Stack was the one who gave me my offer and I’m very thankful for him. He also introduced me to Coach Redd and familiarized me with the facility. Coach Redd gave me a tour of the facility and ran me through the desires of the program aswell and what he requires of the RBs in the program. All of them have been very receptive throughout the whole process and I look forward to building a stronger relationship with them all.

Caught up with Taihj today. He tells me Syracuse and Miami are the schools most standing out in his recruitment at the moment.

Caught up with Cam today - I asked him a question about wanting to stay home in NY. He responded: "I think Coach Fran has something special going with wanting to keep the best players home. It’s great for the players since it’s close to home and they are a very very good program especially recently."

I caught up with Xander today. He said that he and coach Stack Williams are targeting the Boston College season finale in November to get him on campus.

"I’m very excited for that opportunity," he said to me.
