2024 Orange (NJ) High quarterback Maurice Williams Jr. was at Syracuse over the weekend for Junior Day and raved about his trip in an interview with The Juice Online.

“I definitely see Syracuse differently for sure,” Williams said. “The energy it brings, the intensity and most importantly the swag was something I didn’t expect.”

Williams is currently being recruited by Notre Dame, Rutgers, Maryland and Boston College, among others, but Williams said one school was recruiting him the hardest.

“Currently, I’d say Syracuse is recruiting the hardest,” Williams said. “I never felt so much love from a coaching staff.”

Williams is coming off a junior season where he led the Tornadoes to the fourth seed in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s North Jersey, Group 4 regional invitational tournament.

Though he missed the first three games of the season due to injury, he more than made up for it with 1,405 yards through the air and 20 touchdowns, and also rushed for 501 yards and four scores, in six games.

That put him on the radar of the Orange.

During his visit, Williams spent time with Syracuse offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who was also the Orange’s quarterbacks coach in 2022.

“The whole coaching staff loved me,” Williams said. “From the door, I was shown a great ton of love. Just a surreal feeling overall. I loved rocking the Syracuse gear.”

He added that he doesn’t have any favorite schools so far, “but that could change soon in time.”
