WHAT HAPPENED: 2024 shooting guard Elijah Moore announced his commitment to Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.Moore picked the Orange over finalists Alabama, Arkansas, Miami and Oklahoma State. 247 Sports rates Moore as a four-star prospect and the No. 73 player in his class. He is the Orange’s first commitment in 2024.

SCOUTING REPORT: As many private catholic schools close their doors in New York City, one institution has stayed true. Cardinal Hayes. Home of Regis Philbin, Martin Scorsese and Jim Jones, Cardinal Hayes is a Bronx institution. Elijah Moore embodies the Bronx in his game similar to a hybrid Kemba Walker/Jamal Mashburn.

Tough, fast, and gritty. Hard to commit to off the ball, yet teams will pay if they choose not too. Elijah Moore is a shooter who can hit shots from long and mid range. Moore can step in and out of shots to create space, which benefits both his point guard and big men.

He’s also a tremendous on-ball defender who will cause problems for both point guards and shooting guards in the ACC. Working off ball with Judah Mintz will provide a long ACC career, with future potential for the NBA. Syracuse fans have a lot to be excited for, and now it’s up to Jim Boeheim to make sure the name gets signed on NLI day later this year.

Fans of the old Big East style of play will be pleased with Moore’s defense, while new school ACC fans will appreciate his offense. Get ready Syracuse, this has potential to be a lot of fun.
