Who is the favorite for the 2024 CFP?

It’s only a few days after the 2023 College Football Playoffs wrapped up another season, which means it’s time to start thinking about the 2024 College Football Playoff.
Georgia, coming off its second straight national championship, will go for a three-peat, which would be the first in college football since Minnesota did it from 1934-36. Needless to say, it’s never been done in the modern era.
Can it be done? Well, if based on recent history, the answer is yes. Despite losing six starters on offense and six starters on defense, the Bulldogs have reloaded with another top-three recruiting class. Quarterback Stetson Bennett is finally out of eligibility, but sophomore Carson Beck is in line to replace him.
Another key returner is tight end Brock Bowers, who hauled in 56 catches for 790 yards and six touchdowns. Mississippi State and Missouri transfer wide receivers Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett will also help bolster what was a thin receiving core. And the best part is, Georgia has a very winnable 2023 schedule, with non-conference games against Georgia Tech, Ball State, UAB and UT Martin.
Of course, it’s too early to think about just handing over the trophy to Georgia.
Its top competitor will be Ohio State, who is the odds-on favorite to play Georgia in the 2024 national championship game. The Buckeyes will get tailback TreVeyon Henderson, who missed most of the 2022 season. or much of the campaign. CJ Stroud is off to the NFL, so keep an eye on Kyle McCord, who has some starting experience on his resume, and Devin Brown, who will challenge McCord for the job.
Another factor will be betting on collegiate sports, since it is likely to be more prevalent than ever before. On January 1st , 2023, Ohio became the 33rd state to
legalize and open a betting market where fans can increase their engagement and support of their favorite teams. Now collegiate football fans across the country may access the market from mobile devices as well as in the betting stands, including another Ohio team, the Bobcats, with a recent, Syracuse 29, Bobcats 9 result.
Another Big 10 team looking to break through will be Michigan, who lost a thriller to TCU in the semifinal. They’ve now beaten rival OSU in two straight seasons, and quarterback JJ McCarthy is back. There is some uncertainty with Jim Harbaugh being linked to multiple NFL jobs, but if he returns, expect Michigan to continue to be in the discussion for the top 4 by season’s end. Another major coup is getting running back Blake Corum back after he announced on Monday that he will return for one more year.
One team that has been out of the picture for a long time is Florida State. The Seminoles won 10+ games for the first time since 2016 last yaer, and they return seven offensive players and nine defensive players from that team. Quarterback Jordan Travis should be in the Heisman discussion, and FSU picked up a pair of elite tight ends in the transfer portal in Jaheim Bell (South Carolina) and Kyle Morlock (Shorter).
