Syracuse lost the crown jewel of its 2023 class on Friday, as quarterback LaNorris Sellers flipped his commitment from the Orange to South Carolina.
Sellers had been committed to the Orange since June, but his relationship with current Syracuse offensive coordinator Jason Beck extended longer than that.
Beck initially recruited Sellers when he was quarterbacks coach at Virginia, where Sellers originally committed. But when Beck and Robert Anae left Virginia for Syracuse, Sellers flipped his commitment and followed Beck to Central New York. But the relationship between the two couldn’t overcome Sellers’ desire to stay home.
South Carolina offered Sellers late in the cycle in October, and made a furious push for the four-star signal caller from South Florence, SC.
All signs pointed to Sellers flipping to South Carolina on Wednesday, the first day of the signing period. Initially, Sellers was planning on signing his letter and then announcing his decision on Friday.
But both South Carolina and Syracuse continued their overtures to Sellers, who delayed signing his letter until Friday’s announcement.
