Syracuse defeated Virginia 22-20 on Friday evening to improve to 4-0 on the year. Here’s some quick hits from the game:
- Sean Tucker gathered 60 yards on 21 carries, but did his best work on the last SU scoring drive. Tucker picked up 30 yards on six rushing attempts on that possession and added on a 15-yard reception.
- Tucker’s rough night was not limited to just him. Removing six sacks and downing the ball on the final play of the game, the Orange had 31 rushing attempts for 104 yards, under 3.4 yards per carry.
- Oronde Gadsden II hauled in his first six targets, gaining 103 yards in the first half. Unfortunately, he was silent until the final drive, catching one more pass for ten yards.
- Garrett Shrader had an up-and-down night. Shrader completed 22-of-33 pass for 277 yards and added a touchdown run on the first Orange possession, but threw an interception and was also sacked a half dozen times.
- Garrett Williams came away with both turnovers the Syracuse defense caused, notching an interception and recovering a fumble. The pick blunted a Virginia drive deep in the Orange end of the field. Caleb Okechukwu had a pair of sacks while Leon Lowery and Marlowe Wax each had one, all of them coming in the first half.
