Syracuse head coach Dino Babers speaks to media at the 2022 ACC Kickoff event.

A quick take on 2023 RB Ike Daniels committing to Syracuse:

WHAT HAPPENED: Syracuse received a commitment from Ike Daniels, a running back from Mountain (VA) View High, he announced on Twitter. Daniels took an official visit on the weekend of June 24 and also visited Hawaii. Daniels holds a three-star ranking from 247 Sports and is rated the 17th prospect in Virginia and is now the ninth commitment in the class.

ANALYSIS: Syracuse’s focus on the northeast continues. The Orange has picked up four commitments from New York State (Zyian Moultrie-Goddard, Jalil SmithDavid Clement and Rashard Perry), one from New Jersey (Muwaffaq Parkman), and another from Massachusetts (Jayden Bass). The Virginia running back fits perfectly within SU’s current geographic footprint. Syracuse’s only commitments outside of the northeast as of right now are Kansas wide receiver Bryce Cohoon and South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

HERO: Daniels becomes SU’s second highest rated player (677th nationally) behind Norris (654). He’s a “high” 3-star, and is SU’s second running back in the class after the speedy Muwaffaq Parkman. It was SU’s second commitment this week, with Bass announcing on Tuesday.

ZERO: Daniels selected SU over his other finalist, Hawaii, but he held a slew of high-major offers that included Arizona State, Michigan State, Penn State, Pitt, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

WHAT’S NEXT: Syracuse is among the finalists for elite 2023 OL Naquil Betrand, who will announce his college decision on July 30. His final six schools are Georgia, Texas A&M, Syracuse, Auburn, Kentucky and Penn State.
