Cornell snaps Syracuse lacrosse’s winning streak

Jonathan Donville scored a pair of first half goals, Caelahn Bullen notched 14 saves behind net, and Cornell held Syracuse scoreless in the second quarter to snap SU’s three-game win streak 13-8 on Tuesday night at Schoellkopf Field.

The teams played even early in the first quarter, with Brendan Bomberry’s goal with 8:17 in the opening period tying the game at 2-2. From there, Cornell used a pair of 3-0 runs to take an 8-3 lead with 14:24 to go in the third.

David Lipka’s eight goal of the season pulled Syracuse to within 11-7 with 8:45 to go, but Jordan Dowiak and John Piatelli scored within 90 seconds of each other, the second coming with 1:51 to go to give the Big Red a 13-7 lead and complete control of the game.

It was the third time that Syracuse has been held under 10 goals this season, all resulting in losses.

Stephen Rehfuss led Syracuse with four points (one goal and three assists), while Lipka scored two goals. Dom Madonna turned away nine shots.

Syracuse returns home to play North Carolina on Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will televised on ESPNU.
