Recruiting Roundup: Armunz Mathews, Elijah and Elisha Daniels on Syracuse football’s radar

Great news for the Orange with the NCAA allowing three scholarships to count toward its sanctions. On to today’s recruiting world…

Cardinal Gibbons (Fla.) defensive backs Elijah Daniels and Elisha Daniels are expecting a visit from the Syracuse staff, reports Rivals.com’s Scott Brown. The brothers, both rated three stars, are being pursued by Maryland, UCF and USF, among others, and could visit Syracuse soon.

With Chris Ash on board at Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights have started to scour the New Jersey talent pool, including former SU commit DyMelle Parker and current commit Jamal Holloway writes NJ.com’s Todderick Hunt. “Rutgers might be back in the mix. They called today (last Friday morning),” said Camden head coach Dwayne Savage.

Gibsonton (Fla.) defensive back KJ Sails named his top five on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, and his schools are Rutgers, USF, Cincinnati, Maryland and West Virginia. Noticibly absent was Syracuse, who had been pursuing him under the Scott Shafer era. The 2016 prospect has a three-star rating from 247 Sports.

North Florida Christian (Fla.) DB/WR Armunz Mathews tells Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey that he’s in the process of planning a visit to Syracuse on Jan. 29. Mathews committed to USF in June, and also has offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana and LSU, among others. Syracuse has yet to offer.

2017 Baltimore (Md.) Clinton Christian School forward Melo Eggleston will take an unofficial visit to UNLV, reports 247 Sports’ Andrew Slater. Wake Forest, Baylor and UConn are schools to have offered Eggleston. Syracuse has expressed interest but has not extended an offer yet.

Scout.com’s Brian Snow writes that 2017 forward Andre Rafus has no shortage of suitors. “I’m hearing from a lot of schools,” noted Rafus. “UNLV, USC, Dayton, Missouri, Kansas, Syracuse, UCLA, St. John’s, Tennessee, Seton Hall. I have 23 offers. I have also been seen by Rick Pitino, Eddie Jordan, and a few others.”

Syracuse assistant coach Mike Hart may be the key to landing 2016 four-star Michigan WR Desmond Fitzpatrick, writes Bailey. “I want to be just like him,” he said about Hart. Fitzpatrick is considering Louisville, Arizona, Mississippi State, Indiana and Nebraska, among others.

Have a great Thursday, everyone!
