Hogue recognized, Marrone snubbed

Syracuse, after clinching its first winning season since 2001, had six players named to the All Big East team today.

Of the six, only senior linebacker Doug Hogue was named to the All Big East First Team.

Senior tailback Delone Carter, senior linebacker Derrell Smith, senior punter Rob Long, sophomore defensive end Chandler Jones, freshman offensive tackle Justin Pugh and freshman place kicker Ross Krautman were named to the second team.

Still, the day was somewhat disappointing, as SU Coach Doug Marrone, who earlier in the week was named American Football Coaches Association Region I Coach of the Year, was not named Big East coach of the year by the eight head coaches who decide on the awards.

Instead, head coaches Randy Edsall of Connecticut and Charley Strong of Louisville were named co-coach of the year.
