Madness coming for Syracuse basketball

The 2012 edition will include an appearance by rapper Wale, which is ironic since he’s from the home of rival Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Co-hosting the event are Scoop Jardine—that sometimes infuriating but always fun-loving recent graduate—and Jasmine Jordan—daughter of the greatest basketball player of all time and current student.

Syracuse holds off Florida

Although Dion Waiters had been a major story in the opening games of Syracuse’s season for his strong play off the bench, the starting backcourt of Scoop Jardine and Brandon Triche carried the team to their biggest win of the season, knocking off #9 Florida in the Carrier Dome Friday night, 72-68, as part of the Big East/SEC Challenge.

Reserves key Syracuse victory over Colgate

Syracuse’s bench outscored its starters 60-32 in Syracuse’s 92-47 win over Colgate on Saturday. Reserves Dion Waiters led the way with 16 points, followed by James Southerland (14) and CJ Fair (13). Scoop Jardine was the only starter to be in double digits, finishing with 11 points and six assists.

The Dag Bag – The blown over-and-back call

Yes, the official blew the call, but so did Scoop Jardine. When the pass sailed wide, Jardine tried to toe the halfcourt line, and you only do that if you think you’re about to be called for over-and-back. I can’t put myself in the place of an official, but I would think that how Scoop reacted when the play happened would only draw the official’s attention to it. It was also a bad pass from Dion. It’s easy to put the blame on the officials, but without Dion and Scoop’s mistakes, it never becomes a factor. The Orange can’t control the officials, but they can control what they do on the court.

Big lineup will play more often

During Saturday’s 58-51 victory against Georgetown, the two combined for 20 minutes of action. Keita had one rebound in 13 minutes of play, while Melo had a rebound and two points on an alley-oop from Scoop Jardine in transition. It was the first time that Melo played more than five minutes since Syracuse’s 72-49 win against South Florida on Feb. 9. It may be a sign of things to come as Syracuse heads into championship season.
