On the surface, a 5-2 record looks good. The Orange have had quality, consecutive wins over Virginia, St. John’s and Johns Hopkins, but it’s also had frustrating losses—the season opener at home against Albany and this past Saturday at Villanova.
The teams would continue to trade goals and runs until the final quarter with the score at 10-10 with 13:30 left. From there, the Syracuse defense clamped down and held the Red Storm to a single goal while scoring three of their own.
This was a huge win for a squad who is still trying to find itself. After many worried the fate of the season, the Orange responded with a victory that says, We can compete with anyone in the country.
After letting by five goals in the first quarter against Albany last week, the defense stepped it up and shutout the Black Knights in the first quarter.
